Wellspring Wines 5th Annual Wine Tasting – 19/10/14

I always enjoy Wellspring Wines’ tastings. They have such a good selection of very carefully hand picked small producers whose wines tend to be really quite delicious. This was certainly the case last Monday when I attended their 5th Annual Wine Tasting. Roddy Ropner heads up the HK operation and was joined by Burgundy expert Amanda Skinner from Wellspring’s partner company in the UK, Private Cellar, recently voted runner-up best wine merchant in Jancis Robinson’s Independent Wine Merchants writing competition.

34 wines were on show with a top selection from Burgundy, my favourite Marchesi de Grésy wines from Barbaresco, some brand new Rieslings from rising star of the Mosel Weingut A.J. Adam, as well as having Marie-Odile and Ingrid de Chassey pouring the Guy de Chassey Champagnes. My wines of the afternoon were as follows:

Domaine André Dezat Sancerre 2013

Very fresh, forward aromas, classic gooseberry in particular. Nice crisp acid. A classic Sancere. 16.5 HK$198

Domaine André Sancerre Rosé 2013

Nice red berry fruit aromas on the nose which follow through on the palate. Crsip and mineral. A very tasty rosé. 16.5 HK$205

Weingut A.J. Adam Piesporter Terrassen Riesling 2013
